Mak's Noodles
Thu, 15 Dec 2011

No stay in Hong Kong would be complete without wonton mee, and nothing is more authentic than Mak's Noodle. We are fortunate there is a branch at the Peak Galleria. Go there early, and there is no queue for the delicious, abeit tiny portions, of noodles.
No Michelin star, but close enough.

the other won ton noodle
at my previous visit riding in HK with the boys, we stopped for breakfast at this other famous won ton mee place just across from Mak's Noodle along Wellington Street. This is just down the road from Yung Kee, the famous goose and century egg institution.
I remembered it was very good, and especially memorable chilli sauce...

For some reason, the taxi meter and the tiny calendar is just so representative of HK to me...
We had brunch at Mak's Noodles (麥奀雲吞麵世家) at the Peak. recommended by the man himself, Anthony Bourdain. The original is at Wellington Street but this new stall works for us.
A confession. Not counting what the rest of the family had. I had 4 servings -
dry noodles with oyster sauce and shrimp roe

I like to think that the portions are way too small for a man. even my 4 year old nephew Max finishes 2 bowls at one sitting!
Hong Kong during march school holidays 2011
Fri, 11 March 2011
It's the march school holidays and we are in HK to meet with family and some close friends, and hoping to do a bit of shopping. With HKD6.09 to SGD1, this is a wonderful time to be in HK :)
first stop upon arrival is won ton mee at the maxims at the airport... even if it's at 10pm

size does matter
9 - 12 december 2010

the finals of the 2010 figure skating grand prix was held in beijing at the capitol stadium. all the biggest stars of figure skating were here (except kim yu na). had a great time. most of the skating costumes were the usual suspects, except my favorite Ashley Cain from USA. hope she sets a new trend... :)
I had my GF1 with 200mm zoom with me, but next to these guys and their equipment, man did I feel inadequate
welcome to beijing!

arrived in beijing to a familiar sight - gridlocked traffic, and the sun hidden behind the smog
some days we get surprised by clear skies and a nicer smelling air
smog again on the day I left on 21 dec. beijing as i remember it
