Bar Bouchon

Sat, 17 Dec 2011

Still jet-lagged, we woke up at 3.30pm and had our first meal of the day at 6pm, out on the patio at Thomas Keller's Bar Bouchon on 225 North Canon Drive in Beverly Hills

this was pre-dinner at 8.30pm, so we had drinks and a very light meal to fill the tummy before heading to Rodeo Drive for a little shopping.

yes truffle popcorn. oh so good.

tomato soup and ham & cheese sandwich

BLT. simple but good

Red Medicine

Fri, 16 Dec 2011

Arrived in LA at 8+pm after a 12 hour flight from Hong Kong. Our first meal in LA was at this amazing restaurant+bar called Red Medicine. It was close to 11pm and we were famished

Red Medicine 8400 Wilshire Boulevard Beverly Hills, CA 90211 (323) 651-5500

brussel sprouts, bacon and shrimp chips. I hate bs but I love this dish, speaks for itself.

chicken dumplings, wrapped with lettuce but a selection of sauces and condiments. we had 2 orders :)

what's a 'vietnamese' restaurant without spring rolls.
honestly they were too pretty to be eaten. helps that the place is SO dark. we need a torch (and my reading glasses) to read the menu. These pictures were taken with ISO1600

foie gras. yes totally unrecognizable

one of my favorites - corn, egg...

scallops

rabbit loin... on the house
girls were rather squeamish about the dish and we didn't ordered it, but since it was from the restaurant, e and I finished it :)

Tanyoto Hotpot 譚魚頭火鍋

Thu, 15 Dec 2011

Had hot pot dinner at Tanyoto in wanchai.

1-3/F,129-135 Johnston Road, Wan Chai 灣仔莊士敦道129-135號1-3樓

We had a mixture of 2 soup base. Great selection of fresh meats and other hot pot goodies with decent sauces.

Warning: the spicy peppercorn soup base is EXTREMELY lip-numbing hot.

Mak's Noodles

Thu, 15 Dec 2011

No stay in Hong Kong would be complete without wonton mee, and nothing is more authentic than Mak's Noodle. We are fortunate there is a branch at the Peak Galleria. Go there early, and there is no queue for the delicious, abeit tiny portions, of noodles.

No Michelin star, but close enough.
