Meiji Jingu Shrine

Saturday, 10 July 2010

After a week of rain, the sun is finally out!

Road to the shrine is covered with tiny pebbles. Leave your heels at home. yes you men too. I spotted a man (no make up, and looking like A MAN) wearing ladies heels, cropped top, jeans (thankfully not a skirt) and clutching a ladies handbag on his shoulder in Tokyo. Fashion is one thing, but man this is a disturbing sight!

Entrance to the shrine just next to the Harajuku JR Station.
Visitors are out in full force today to take advantage of the good weather. It was built in 1920, and the shrine celebrates its 90th anniversary this year.

20th century rules. Horse carriage? Fish? Bird? None of these with me today...

Tree lined entrance to the shrine. 100,000 trees donated at the time the Shrine was built. It was a beautiful sight accompanied by lovely birds singing, and the occasional crow (no I am not referring to any particular tourist). Saw 2 black menancing crows actually. With very sharp beaks.
